Basement Home Theater

My family is considering moving to a new house with a basement unfinised, but we plan finish. We want to be part of a home theater style room with a nice sound system. What are some good ideas to insulate the roof or something so low not rattle the whole house?

Room acoustics is a bit of a black art. You sheatrock seal to prevent the high frequency of escape. But you need to keep weight off over the room. This may involve placing spacers and a second layer of plaster, Dow Corning has special glass fiber and rock to absorb special case sound, etc. Too bad – I do not know of a good book to recommend. You may need to consult an expert in acoustics of what to use.
