Discount Home Theater Speaker

I recently purchased a new Sony Blu-Ray player. It is currently connected via HDMI to my Sony 40-inch HDTV is several years old. I have a Panasonic speaker system which is about four years old connected around my living room size medium. The connections for the speakers are so old that are not compatible with my Blu-Ray. Instead, use the Panasonic DVD player as an aid to the player Blu-Ray so we can get the front speakers to work. The two speakers in the rear does not seem to work with the Blu-Ray player though.
