Is it the responsibility of the owner to replace furniture damaged by leaks foundation in my apartment?
Two weeks ago I came home from work to find the floor in front of electric theater seating to be wet in my apartment. I moved the chairs from the wall to see the entire area under they were soaked. Long story short, there was a crack in the foundation that caused about 100 gallons of water to enter my apartment. I tried to call my insurance tenant to be compensated for the chairs (which were $ 2,500 3 years ago), but said they do not cover damage caused by cracks in the foundation. I contacted the owner and told me that the complex / and your insurance company will not pay me anything about the chairs because there was no negligence owner. Is there anything I can do to make my chairs replaced? Is there someone I can contact who could? Is the owner responsible for such damage or is my problem? Thanks for your help. I have renters insurance – which does not cover damage from leaking foundation.
I have no idea, but you can always take the owner to court small claims and obtain a judge's opinion as to who is responsible. Probably not the insurance company. Have you read your policy? The answer is no.
