What do I need to know about power and my home theater receiver?
I have a cheap Sony HTS, 5.1, incuded 5 speakers and subwoofer for the Platform $ 199 three years ago. I think the receiver is 100 watts. It worked great for my 2 bedroom apartment, but I recently upgraded to a big house prewired for surround sound. I bought four 90 watt 5.5 "Boston Acoustic ceiling speakers and a Polk CS1 center speaker upto 125 watts. My concern: I connected the CS1 and I am not getting the volume you want (not expecting it to sound like the system in the store, but did not expect it to sound better than the original center speaker I had). Now I concerned to cut holes in the roof, for the four surround speakers to discover that performs no better than the shelves. Do not just install the rear channel ceiling speakers until I can afford a higher voltage receiver? How many watts do I need to support these speakers? What is a decent budget brand?
Power is not as important as people make it out to be. The said power to the new spkrs I assume is the highest rating, power is corrupt before handling the SPKR. You need to look more into the sensitivity range of the SPKR min (s). Like many decibels (dB) needed to perform at its optimal SPKR sound. Then compared with the specifications of your rcvrs. The MPU is rated at 100 watts, this is the combined power of all channels or by channel? Anyway, that classification is consistent with the basic material (1k Hz sine wave or just an annoying buzzing / sound HUM) w / vol @ max settings. That you never have to reach over 3 / 4 max quality of offspring if the MPU is anywhere close. You left the most important factor, to help answer your question. What is the impedance spkrs and what their management rcvrs impedance. Sony, I'll assume 8 ohms. Any load of less than 8 ohms submitted to the MPU, and their struggle. The result is a low volume @ Configuration high. It's like connecting a garden hose to a hydrant. You will not have much, but the pressure will grow. In the MPU, this results in excess heat is not good. Email me with details if you want a precise answer. But Sony is a step in the right direction. I use Sony ES.
