Hello, I need help in deciding the time to get an LCD or plasma?
I am looking to buy a TV with HDTV, not so many for sale morning (black Friday). I was wondering weather LCD or plasma TVs are better in terms of image quality, color and life of television. HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL.
LCD vs Plasma TV (presented by Philips) Currently, creating flat screen televisions with two different technologies: plasma and LCD (LCD). The founding of the plasma television is more than a million tiny glass cells that are charged with a mixture of neon and xenon. Behind of these cells are colored phosphors, which are chemical compounds that emit light when triggered. Each cell has three phosphors, one red, one blue and one green. When activated by an electrode, the plasma cells emit invisible UV light. The UV light hits the red phosphors, green and blue on the back of the screen and creating the pixels that form the image you see on the screen. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technology works differently. Liquid is suspended between two transparent panels. In the liquid crystals which, when activated by stress, re-located so that either allow light to pass through the panel and / or block light. This process is similar to turning on and off a million light bulbs. Fluorescent tubes behind the panels supply the light sources. Both on and off crystals create visible pixels that together form the image on the screen. Pros and cons of each brightness Brightness LCD and plasma screens is typically expressed as candelas per square meter (cd/m2). Typically, plasmas are listed at 500-700 cd/m2, independent reviewers, but to say that the brightness of plasma is closer to 100 cd/m2. By contrast, LCD televisions typically get a brightness rating of 450 cd/m2, again when measured independently. Contrast Ratio Contrast Ratio is the measurement of the brightest white against the blackest black that television can create. The higher the contrast ratio, the easier it is to discern details on the screen. Current plasmas measure contrast ratios of up to 3000:1. However, independent reviewers believe that the measure in situations to see the real world, the rates exchange for the fall of plasma TVs of about 200:1. Conversely, LCD TV contrast ratios range from 350-450:1 when measured using the same realistic standards. Color Saturation Color saturation describes the amount of gray in color. The more gray, the lower the saturation. Plasma has the advantage over LCD the area of color saturation because it is the method to light blocking. The plasma is able to completely turn off pixels when not in use, so no stray light dilutes the colors. How LCD technology works means that there are some scattered light and therefore obtaining true color is difficult. Size Screen Right now, the market offers huge plasma TVs and 60-inch, plasma televisions and are not available below 32 inches. Screen sizes 13-inch LCD wide to 46 inches, and due to manufacturing innovations, larger models are becoming available each year. Look for LCDs to catch to date in this area soon. Viewing angle Historically, plasma TVs have a wider angle of vision, at about 160 degrees, compared with larger LCD TVs. However, newer TV models have LCD viewing angles up to 175 degrees. Burn In Burn in is what happens when an image is remains on a plasma screen for an extended period of time. LCD is not at all susceptible to burn in Although plasma TVs are vulnerable features, some new plasma TVs have added to fight it. Lifespan Typical plasma TVs have a lifespan of 20,000 to 30,000 hours, equivalent to about 20 years of use if you have set for 4 hours a day. The lifespan of an LCD TV is typically 50,000 to 60,000 hours, or about 40 years to 4 hours. Response Time Response time is the amount of time, measured in milliseconds (ms), it takes a pixel to go from active to inactive and back to active again. Values less indicate a faster transitions and fewer visible image artifacts. Plasma TVs were made to control the rapid movement on the screen more effectively. They can have response times of only 15 ms. LCD TVs and PC screens started and show the need for rapid movement was not critical, about 25 ms. LCD makers have been steadily improving their response times as the demand for fast-moving, full motion video has increased. Model newest LCD can have response times faster than 16 ms. Because energy conservation crystals in LCD TV do not produce light, technology is labeled as "non-issuers", meaning they do not emit radiation like CRT. Sources cold cathode light, such as fluorescent lights, which use only a little power, are used to illuminate the image. LCD also use less power than plasma TVs as plasma power required hundreds of electrodes to stimulate the phosphors.
