He recently got a 50 inch plasma 720p, when looking for a surround what should I look?

Only recently bought a 50 "Samsung Plasma TV 720p. We wanted to get a home theater system, when viewed in the system, what should I be looking? Any specifics? Does need to have an upconverter'm confused! He just said that in theory is going to buy this .. Looking for 7-channel connections (in case you ever want to upgrade 5 to 7 needs two additional ports). Also make sure you have connectors generic (not the type of plug) if you receive a Sony receiver and Bose speakers who used to work together cuz the plugs dont match. But if you clamp ports … always can connect the bare wires. Finally check out wattage. 700 + watts is definitely necessary to surround effects. 1000w Id suggest if you can afford. Quality Finally sound, why buy things that you personally dont think sound clear, clean and clear. Try each system when you go shopping and check several mid-range too. Most small speakers with powerful subwoofer suffer in the midrange. For a TV big an upconverter is nice. improves DVD quality if not a HD or blue-ray disc. However, with only 720p i dont think the improvement will be noticeable and may not be necessary. The upconverter does not translate 720p DVDs to 1080p you dont even have, so I would not recommend the upconverter. Enjoy
