Depixilating in fast moving images flat screen TV?
I have this TV Samsung 32 inch flat screen not long ago. Has DTT Tunner his own image and that is the nail. Also no problem with DVD movies, very clear. But I find my cable TV (the media Virgin) through Sony 160GB HDD DVD recorder and the image I get from there seems to be depixilating when a fast moving and have noticed that programs with very dark as night scenes. Do you think this is due to poor signal from my cable provider and if I can do, or is there some configuration I need to change in my DVD recorder (because the cable runs through it) to get the clear picture that normaly get with Freeview or DVD movie? I only use plated scart so gold should not be down to bad connections. Any ideas?
I suspect you are referring to the block noise "mosquito", which is caused by low flow MPEG quality. HDD DVD recorders store video as an MPEG stream on the hard drive (as they do on a DVD), and this is a lossy compression format – Do not get the same video quality as originally put in. This is the case with some DVDs too: the less well done can be seen frozen in fast motion scenes or areas of high contrast, because the encoding bit rate is not sufficient to store all data. Where appropriate, the noise you are seeing is probably caused by internal recorder convert your MPEG input signal automatically (to provide "Pause Live TV" features) and then back to video before reaching the screen. There may be an adjustment on the recorder to increase the bit rate, reducing the duration of the video you can store on your hard drive, but increase the quality. That said, some MPEG chipsets used in consumer products do a bad job only video encoding. Professional encoders used for DVDs cost thousands to do business after all and really could not expect a home recorder to have the same quality. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with his tape recorder, that can only be a limitation of the machine. Bet it still looks better than VHS anyway!
