LN32B460 Samsung 32 "LCD TV standard definition and high definition question?
Im planning on getting a LN32B460 Samsung 32 "LCD TV thanks to its status as the best 32" tv. I want to know how well seen in standard definition, and is said to have built-in digital (ATSC) and analog (NTSC) tuners for television broadcasting antenna in air (required) * Built-in QAM cable TV tuner receives programs uncoded without a set-top box (cable service required) * 1366 x 768 pixels * "Now, a friend told me that I would be able to pick up HD channels if they had any receiver like this? Will I be able to do this? If not, what must I do to get the TV to give me HD channels without paying for them of my service provider?
No do over the air to myself, so I really can not comment on that. I think the first response pretty well covered though. As for the SD on their HDTV, which will be good but not great. Here's the catch, their SD signals are 4:3 and 720×480. Your HD is 16:9 and 1366×768. The TV is good TV, not a computer monitor. Its not going to change to a different resolution will upscale SD than its native resolution. This is going to degrade the image in one way or another. Pillarbox If the picture in high definition television (black bars left / right), then the aspect ratio is maintained and there is only one resolution based on the distortion. This will keep the best image from a SD signal. But then you have the pillarboxes (who annoy many people). To get rid of pillarboxes can HDTV use stretch / zoom options. If you stretch it, and have a distorted aspect ratio. If now extends further to add to the distortion of the resolution image. Either way you will then further degrade the image. There is simply no way around that now. We are stuck in the transition state. Hopefully sooner or later (but hopefully before) everything will be high definition. Then everything is 16:9. So even if the network wants to offer a version of SD him, but still maintain a full frame 16:9.
